Stream-of-Consciousness

Working through a stream of consciousness allows memories, sensations, and symbols to merge. Meaning comes later: an interpretation of self and perception that lives between abstraction, dream, and intuition.

Looking “Out There” (2020)

These works emerged during a period when I began looking “out there” rather than inward. What I found were energies moving in, radiating out, and holding still.

Imagined Memories (2014-2016)

Journey, dream, and lore.

The technical shift in these works came from a desire to merge with the paint, without precision, planning, or refinement. The goal was just to push painting to see who or what was on the other side.

Sleep Walker (2016-2019)

Throughout a life shift, I sought refuge in nature, whose energy imprinted my thoughts. The practice of painting in a stream-of-consciousness gave me the opportunity to explore layered memories and emotions without language. Through this process, I found resilience, and symbolic stories revealed themselves like dreams from a deep sleep.

Spaces and Places Before Form (2014-2016)

Oftentimes, introspective emotional states produce vague shapes and colors in my mind’s eye. These components are associated with sensory input I can only describe as synesthesia. Painting satisfies an impulse to express these unique crossover experiences. The following works were painted with the intention of tuning inward.

City Light Memories (2015-2018)

When recalling life in Chicago, a longing and sense of wonder move through my paintbrush. These works were gratifying to compose, as I leaned on intuition and color to build cities that hold more emotion than structure.

All works are available unless marked Sold or Private Collection.
